Ceylon Leather Products Ltd was formally the Ceylon Leather Products Corporation which was privatized in 1991. The first shoe factory at Mattakkuliya, Sri Lanka was established by the British in 1942 to manufacture boots and accessories for the British Armed Forces. After the war the factory diversified its activities to produce shoes for the local and export market. The factory then came under the supervision of the Department of Industries' giving use to its logo.

CLPL is engaged in the manufacture and trading of Leather, footwear and Leather goods. Its has distinct production facilities namely,

    Tannery - Where Leathers are made from raw hides and skins.

    Two Shoe Factories - Produce mainly Leather footwear.

    Leather Goods Factory - Manufacture all types of Leather Products other than footwear.
